Understanding the Fruit of the Spirit
Peace, love, joy. We see these and the other fruits of the Spirit outlined in Galatians 5. Cultivating biblical fruit is a task that can seem daunting. However, the purpose of the fruits of the Spirit isn't to overwhelm us, but to encourage us to grow. By watering our souls with the Word of God, we can prepare our hearts to bear good fruit.
From the moment humanity encountered the forbidden fruit, we’ve been drawn toward bad fruit that leads us further away from who Christ created us to become. However, by studying Galatians 5, we can return to God’s true design for His creation and learn how to develop the fruit of the Spirit.
In His mercy, God gave us the written word, which tells us how to live. He gave us the living Word, Jesus, who shows us perfectly how it’s done. And He gave us the Spirit of Truth, as a counselor to help guide us along the path to righteousness.
When we take all those together—trusting in God and His Word, following the example of Jesus, and walking by the Spirit—we will be like a good tree growing good fruit, and the world will see it and come to know God’s love more fully.
